Jan 9, 2024 · GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. — As much as 700 million gallons of toxic waste lies behind the Conestee Dam in Greenville County from years of mill waste and dumping into the river.

Conestee. The First Baptist Church of Conestee endeavors to maintain a spiritual environment where people of all ages can grow in the nurture and admonition of the LORD. Our church was established over 100 years ago. The land on which the church is built was given to the community by the Conestee Mill for $1.00 to start the church.

On January 9, 2024, the river exploded with stormwater runoff from heavy rains. Based on our calculations, the river peaked at over 5,000 cubic feet per second.
