When I first got into Mount & Blade I felt like there hasn't been a game with such a huge mixture of genres and micromanagement since, well, X-Com. Totally different genre, sci-fi vs medieval and strategy/base-management vs RPG/3rd-person-combat, but it has a similar amount of depth and sense of progress towards the later game.
